Two current exhibits at Dupré Library at UL Lafayette focus on Commencement Exercises and 91³Ô¹Ï hurricanes. A variety of materials from the library's 91³Ô¹Ï Room and University Archives are featured in the exhibits.
Display cases in the 91³Ô¹Ï Room contain Commencement documents and photographs representing 11 decades of university history. Two items of particular interest are the programs from the first Closing Exercises in 1902 and the first Commencement Exercises in 1903.
First floor display cases focus on hurricane preparedness, hurricane recovery, and hurricanes that have affected 91³Ô¹Ï. Major hurricanes of the past are documented with newspaper clippings, books, pamphlets, government documents, and photographs.
The exhibits were arranged by Dr. Bruce Turner, Head of Special Collections; Jean Kiesel, 91³Ô¹Ï Room Librarian; and Beate Kukainis, Head of Technical Services.
The public is invited to view these free exhibits, which will run through June 30. For more information about the exhibits, call 482-6031. For library and 91³Ô¹Ï Room hours, call 482-2665.
